The Raising Aspiration Curriculum in the Primary School
The Raising Aspiration Curriculum does not usually involve significant extra resources or time, but rather a different approach by staff to familiar topics. It is concerned with enabling students to make the link between their success in education and their future opportunities.
Evidence from research by NFER has found that primary schools which undertake these programmes in will: • Raise aspiration • Raise attainment • Increase awareness of opportunities • Improve transitions to secondary schools • Challenge stereotypes, which if left unchallenged can become a barrier to engagement in education
There was ‘evidence that the Raising Aspiration Curriculum had helped to raise pupils’ aspirations for the future and extend their horizons…It improved attendance and attainment.’ (Research Report DFE-RR116)
